Slavoj lectures at Rollins College
Slavoj visited my Christianity class in the fall of 2007. Here he is lecturing on the perverse nature of Atonement theory found within Christianity. The basic challenge that Slavoj raised in this context was the same question that St. Anslem (1033-1109) raised in his most famous work, Cur Deus Homo (Why God [became] Man?). Zizek basically asks two questions: Why did God have to give Jesus (God the Father’s, Son) in the first place? and the second question: To Whom is Jesus given? If Jesus is given to Satan (for our sins etc.) then doesn’t Satan’s power here begin to rival God’s power?
Slavoj then gave a lecture on Ideology and Learning during his visit (sponsored by the Winter Park Institute). Slavoj will be returning to Rollins for a week in late October, 2009. His visit is sponsored by the Winter Park Institute this time too.
